Meet Eric the rhino

Eric is a young male white rhino living at Rhino Sanctuary Namibia. At around six years old, he stands at the threshold between youth and adulthood. Strong in build, steady in presence, and already carrying the quiet authority that often defines a mature bull.

He is the oldest son of Beate and part of a strong lineage within the sanctuary. Eric moves through the landscape with calm confidence, aware of his place in the herd and the space around him. There is a sense of balance in the way he carries himself. Powerful, yet composed.

Eric represents a stage of transition. Not a calf anymore, but not fully grown either. A moment where strength, instinct and character begin to settle into something lasting.

Within the sanctuary, he is part of the future of the white rhino population. A young bull growing into his role with the protection and stability needed to thrive.

Strength, legacy and family

Eric carries a name rooted in family. He was named by Kristian and Henrik Sylvest, who support the sanctuary through their company Dacapo Stainless. The name honours their father, Eric, and reflects the values that have shaped both their family and their business.

Their first adopted rhino was Joanna, named after their mother. With Eric, the story continues.

For Kristian and Henrik, Joanna represents the beginning and the hope of new life. Eric represents something equally important: continuity. The strength and stability that allow others to grow.

The brothers see a clear connection between these values and the work of Rhino Sanctuary Namibia. Just as their company is built as a second-generation family business, conservation also depends on responsibility carried across generations.

Supporting the sanctuary is therefore about more than protection. It is about passing something forward. Ensuring that both people and wildlife can grow up in safe and stable environments.

As Eric moves through the sanctuary today, he stands as a symbol of that commitment. A reminder that the choices made today shape the strength of tomorrow.
